DRESS CODE

Learning to dress appropriately for school, work, and recreation is an important life skill stressed at PS/IS 217. To assist our students in developing that skill, our school requires students to adhere to a recommended dress code.

Clothing selections should be casual, yet conducive to the activity of learning. The following articles of clothing are considered inappropriate:

  • Shorts, skirts, or dresses that are more than 2 inches above the knee
  • Mesh or extremely sheer blouses worn without a solid article of clothing underneath
  • Excessively ripped and torn clothing
  • Spandex clothing
  • Backless, strapless or spaghetti strap tops
  • Clothing that bares the midriff
  • Hats, bandanas or kerchiefs
  • Excessive makeup and/or jewelry
  • Clothing with inappropriate pictures or words
  • Heels, slippers or flip-flops
  • Pajama pants
  • Wheelies
  • No beads of any kind, including rosaries
  • Pants, skirts, or shorts worn below the waist
  • Outdoor gear (i.e., gloves, hats, earmuffs, etc.)

A student’s failure to adhere to the dress code will result in parental/guardian contact. Please take a few moments to share this list with your child to avoid last minute wardrobe changes resulting in school lateness. Your support of this policy is greatly appreciated.
