LATENESS

We are working hard to reduce lateness. The school day begins at 8:25 a.m. All students arriving after 8:25 a.m must sign the late log. Failure to sign the late log will result in absence. Unexcused lateness will result in a school consequence, i.e., detention or a meeting with parent/guardian. Persistent lateness can be perceived as educational neglect and may be reported to ACS.

Absence and lateness are a serious impediment to successful school performance. Day to day, it means lost opportunities for learning and additional makeup work. Long-term absence and lateness on student records are facts that follow students on their permanent record and could impact their acceptances to future schools in both middle school and high school.

It is the expectation that all middle school students will be in their assigned classes promptly. During transition, middle school students are given 3 minutes to be in their classrooms ready to work. If a student needs to use the bathroom, drink water, go to their lockers, visit the nurse or run an errand they must have a pass from the teacher. Any middle school student found outside of their classroom without a pass will be given a detention.

Being present and being on time are the habits students need to develop for the future. Now is the time that we can work together to develop these important life skills.
